Bitcoin Went Up Five Times in a Row on Kalshi. Is Down Due?

DegenHedge Research  ยท  Published October 22, 2026  ยท  ~5 min read  ยท  Results through October 21, 2026  ยท  Not betting advice
Short answer

A little, but not in a way you can cash in. After a streak, the next 15-minute window flipped slightly more often than a coin would: after four in a row it flipped about 56 times out of 100. The catch is that Kalshi's price already leans the same way, so the "due" side costs more, and once Kalshi's fee is paid there was nothing left over in our data.

What we checked

Kalshi runs a Bitcoin market every 15 minutes: will Bitcoin finish the window higher (Up) or lower (Down) than where it started? We pulled every result Kalshi published from January 10 to October 21, 2026, 26,986 of them, and looked at the streaks: Up, Up, Up is a streak of three.

Then we flipped a fair coin, by computer, 2,000 times over the same stretch to see what streaks pure chance would give.

Streaks happen all the time, and a coin does it too

With 96 windows a day, long streaks are normal. A streak of five or more happened about 2 or 3 times a day, and eight or more about once or twice a week.

The longest was 16 Downs in a row, 9:45 AM to 1:45 PM ET on October 2, 2026: four straight hours of Down. That sounds wild, but a fair coin flipped over the same stretch made a streak at least that long in 33% of our tries. The longest Up streak was 11 in a row, 5:45 to 8:30 AM ET on September 28, 2026.

If anything, Kalshi's results had fewer long streaks than a coin: 690 streaks of five or more, where a coin averages about 840. Up and Down were otherwise an even split (49.87% Up).

After a streak, the next window flips a bit more often

A coin would flip half the time no matter what came before. Kalshi's Bitcoin windows flipped a little more than that after a streak:

Same result this many times in a rowTimes it happenedNext window flipped
2 in a row6,91253 out of 100
3 in a row3,26752 out of 100
4 in a row1,55256 out of 100
5 in a row68854 out of 100
6 in a row31756 out of 100
Windows from January 10 to October 21, 2026. Longer streaks are too rare to read on their own.

So yes, "Down is due" has a grain of truth. But only a grain: even after four Ups in a row, Up came again about 44 times out of 100.

The catch: the price already knows

On Kalshi you buy a contract that pays $1 if you are right. Its price is the market's guess at the odds, and it is also your breakeven, the share of bets you need to win just to get your money back: a 52-cent contract has to win 52 times out of 100 before you are even. Kalshi also charges a small fee when you buy at the listed price, about 2 cents on a single contract near 50 cents.

Here is what betting on the flip would have cost, one minute into the next window, and how it did:

Same result this many times in a rowPrice to bet on the flipThe flip wonAhead or behind, before the fee
just 1 (no streak yet)50.7 cents50.2% of 10,294-0.5 cents
2 in a row51.6 cents52.6% of 5,116+1.0 cents
3 in a row52.0 cents51.7% of 2,419-0.4 cents
4 in a row52.4 cents53.9% of 1,166+1.6 cents
5 or more in a row53.6 cents52.9% of 1,008-0.7 cents
Prices are Kalshi's asking price one minute into the window, from its public price history (windows from March 24, 2026). Ahead or behind = how often it won minus the price, in cents per $1 contract.

After a streak, the flip side already cost more than 50 cents, and the longer the streak, the more it cost. In two rows it won a cent or so more than it cost, in three rows it won less, and every one of those gaps is the size normal luck produces. Take off the fee and no row came out ahead: the best was still about 0.2 cents per contract behind, even on a 100-contract bet where the fee per contract is smallest.

Why "it's due" feels so convincing

Our brains expect chance to even out quickly, so after five Ups a Down feels overdue. A coin has no memory, and these markets have only a tiny bit. On top of that, a streak in the results is not the same as Bitcoin trending: each window only asks whether the price finished above where that window started, so sixteen Downs in a row can be a steady slide or a choppy afternoon that kept finishing a few dollars lower.

Bottom line

Common questions about streaks

After Bitcoin goes Up several times in a row on Kalshi, is Down due?

Slightly more likely than a coin flip, but not in a way you can cash in. After four Ups or four Downs in a row, the next 15-minute window flipped about 56 times out of 100 from January 10 to October 21, 2026. Kalshi's price already leaned the same way, and after the fee no streak bet came out ahead.

What is the longest streak on Kalshi's 15-minute Bitcoin markets?

16 Downs in a row, 9:45 AM to 1:45 PM ET on October 2, 2026, in 26,986 results we checked. A fair coin flipped over the same stretch made a streak that long or longer in 33% of our simulations, so it is not as strange as it looks.

How often does Bitcoin go Up five times in a row on Kalshi?

Streaks of five or more, Up or Down, happened about 2 or 3 times a day. That is a bit less often than a fair coin would produce.

Can you make money betting on streaks on Kalshi?

Not in our data. The side a streak points to already cost more, and after Kalshi's fee no streak bet came out ahead. Any single bet can lose your whole stake. This is not betting advice.

What does breakeven mean on Kalshi?

It is the share of bets you need to win just to get your money back. A contract pays $1 if you are right, so a 52-cent contract has to win 52 times out of 100 to break even, a little more once Kalshi's fee is added.

How we did it

We used Kalshi's own published results for every Bitcoin 15-minute window (26,986 windows, January 10 to October 21, 2026) and its public minute-by-minute price history from March 24. A streak only counts across windows that ran back to back; a missing window starts a new one. The fair coin is a computer simulation, repeated 2,000 times. Every count on this page is in a small spreadsheet you can download.

A price on a chart is not a promise that you get that price, and what happened in 2026 does not promise what happens next. This page measures the market, not our alerts.

Risk reality: read before acting on anything here

These are 15-minute binary prediction-market contracts. Any single window can lose 100% of your stake. They settle on a 60-second index average, not on the exchange chart you may be watching. At high prices a loss costs many times what a win pays, and Kalshi's fee raises the win rate you need above the price. Nothing on this page is financial, investment, or betting advice.
